FOG-NODE-PT-CM-001 · pair of the appliance · no public date
2×2 m infrastructure hut
Utility optionality. Grid, piped gas and fiber are inputs, not assumptions. Starlink and dispatchable generation are independent fallbacks. The hut enables the appliance.
Canonical: docs/FOG-INFRASTRUCTURE.md. Pair: Fog appliance. Combustion generation stays outside the occupied 2×2 m.
01 · two layers
Appliance ≠ infrastructure
The appliance produces compute, storage, measurement and receipts. The infrastructure supplies power, backhaul, radio, shelter and the human exception desk. Same node role. Different physical layer.
02 · three utilities + two fallbacks
Optionality
Grid
Usual primary power. Not guaranteed. Failure is a transition.
Piped gas
Dispatchable reserve. Generator and exhaust outside the hut.
Fiber
Preferred WAN. Not the only path.
Starlink
Separate failure domain. Orchestrated with fiber.
Radio
Wi-Fi, LoRa, directional P2P. ANACOM / licensed rules apply.
Renewable + fuel
Intermittent cheap energy; generator for continuity. No magic off-grid.
03 · graceful degradation
States 0–6
- 0 Grid + fiber + gas. Starlink is WAN reserve.
- 1 Grid + fiber. No gas.
- 2 Grid + gas. Fiber down → Starlink + radio.
- 3 Gas + fiber. Grid down.
- 4 Gas only. Starlink + radio.
- 5 Renewable + fuel. No grid, pipe or fiber.
- 6 Scarcity shed: safety → control → comms → critical compute → ordinary Fog → opportunistic.
Grid may import or, where DGEG allows, export surplus. A battery is ride-through, not the architecture.
04 · physical
~2 m × 2 m
Inside: appliance, switch, router, fiber terminate, power electronics, MCU, sensors, optional UPS, radios, one desk + monitor + keyboard. Nobody inside in the normal state.
Outside: Starlink, antennas, solar, generator, gas, exhaust. Safety is not minimized — grounding, fire, CO, surge, certified interconnect, radio compliance.
05 · deploy ladder
INFRA-0 to INFRA-6
0 enclosure
Hut + grid + network + appliance + environment sensors.
1 dual WAN
Fiber + Starlink + automatic failover.
2 radio
Wi-Fi, sensor radio, directional links.
3 dispatchable
Generator + energy controller.
4 renewable hybrid
Solar and energy-aware scheduling.
5–6 bidirectional / autonomous
Authorized export where legal. Full mix orchestrated.

Conditions of the work
The appliance proves the work. The infrastructure proves the conditions: kWh, WAN quality, temperature, generator hours. Resilience itself is a resource: fallback capacity + recovery time + remaining energy.
Human path: automatic → alert → remote → visit. The desk is the exception interface.
